Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY), the leading industrial maritime hub, has signed a cooperation agreement with Ahlia University, as part of efforts reflecting both parties’ commitment to strengthening collaboration between the academic and industrial sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The agreement is set to develop young national talent from among the university’s students and graduates by providing high-quality practical training opportunities within the yard, helping to refine their skills and enhance their readiness to enter the workforce.
It also includes the launch of a range of joint initiatives, including events, awareness programs, and specialized activities designed to promote knowledge and expertise sharing, encourage innovative scientific research, and foster a culture of volunteerism. It also enables company employees to further develop their academic qualifications through enrollment in various university programs, supporting their long-term professional growth.
This agreement was signed during an official ceremony held at the university’s campus in Manama, attended by representatives from both sides. Shaikh Duaij bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice President for Corporate Support, signed the agreement on behalf of ASRY, while Professor Abdullah Al Hawaj, Founding President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, represented Ahlia University.
In this context, Shaikh Duaij bin Mohammed Al Khalifa confirmed that this partnership reflects a move towards building an integrated framework that strengthens collaboration between academic and industry institutions, helping to prepare qualified national talent capable of keeping pace with rapid changes across various sectors. He also noted that investing in human capital is a strategic priority for ASRY, stressing the importance of such initiatives in promoting a culture of continuous learning, enhancing professional readiness, and supporting sustainable career development.
On his part, Professor Abdullah Al Hawaj said that this agreement reflects Ahlia University’s direction under its 2026–2030 strategy, through expanding partnerships with leading national corporations that support the Bahraini economy. He noted that cooperation with ASRY represents a strong example of collaboration between the academic and industrial sectors, through supporting applied research, providing field training opportunities, and organizing joint academic programs that help align educational outcomes with labor market needs.
He also praised ASRY’s leading role and its highly professional environment, which enriches students’ experience and enhances their career readiness. He added that the real impact of such partnerships lies in creating sustainable value for the national economy and strengthening the readiness of Bahraini talent for the future, contributing to the Kingdom’s comprehensive development journey.
