The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY), the international maritime hub, has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AtkinsRéalis, world-class engineering services company with immense global capabilities across the net zero energy sector. The signing took place earlier this April, attended by senior figures from both companies. Dr Ahmed Al Abri, ASRY’s Chief Executive Officer, signed on the company’s behalf alongside David Haboubi, Head of Middle East Nuclear and Net Zero Energy, AtkinsRéalis
This partnership is expected to strengthen ASRY’s position in the energy field by drawing it into the renewable power sector, particularly offshore wind. The collaboration will bring together ASRY’s long-standing expertise in marine repair and construction with AtkinsRéalis’s engineering strengths and experience in designing and delivering energy projects.
Dr Al Abri commented: ‘We trust this step will lay the groundwork for a lasting and fruitful working relationship, one that allows us to widen the scope of our client base by adding new lines of work to our existing portfolio. Through its entry into renewable energy industries, ASRY aims to reinforce its standing as a full-service marine centre capable of offering workable, end-to-end solutions for those operating in this space.’ He went on to say: ‘ASRY is pressing ahead with energy efficiency efforts that support sustainable growth, in keeping with Bahrain’s ambitions for developing its renewable energy sector.’
Mr. David Haboubi said: “This collaboration will strengthen ASRY’s position at the heart of the region’s burgeoning offshore wind developments. AtkinsRéalis is a trusted global engineering partner across the project lifecycle, including consenting, engineering, fabrication, and asset management. Through this MoU we look forward to contributing our expertise to support ASRY as it expands its fabrication capacity for both fixed and floating offshore wind foundations."
