ASRY (Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard) is the Arabian Gulf’s leading maritime repair and fabrication facility. Founded in 1977 in Bahrain, the multi-service yard operates in four sectors – Ship Repair & Conversion, Rig Repair & Conversion, Naval Repair & Conversion, and Fabrication & Engineering.
ASRY’s variety of facilities, from graving dock to floating dock, to slipways, to 4km of alongside berth space, means maximum flexibility in accommodating ship schedules.
Every major repair sub-contractor, classification society, and specialist workshop has an on-site presence at ASRY so that any repair requirements can be met without delay.
Bahrain’s trade policies mean that importing and exporting parts and labour is quicker and more efficient than regional yards, meaning faster turnaround for all repair projects.
MANAMA: ASRY (Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard) has won the Shipyard Of the Year Award at the recent Lloyds List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent (MEIS) Awards 2016, one of the region’s leading honours in the shipping industry. This is the second year in a row the yard has taken home the award, which recognises a shipyard in the Middle East or Indian Subcontinent region that has consistently met the needs of its customers in these times of tight capacity.
ASRY Chairman, Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Al Khalifa, who received the award on behalf of ASRY, commented, “It is very gratifying to see the judging committee recognise ASRY’s proactive approach to the challenges of a low maritime repair market to maintain its position as the region’s leading shipyard. Despite harsh conditions in 2015, ASRY posted the highest number of vessels repaired in a single year at 243, and in 2016 the highest number of rigs repaired in a single year. We are committed to constant evolution to maintain our leading position, putting customer satisfaction and safety above all else.”
This award comes off the back of the shipyard also winning the Corporate Social Responsibility Award at the Seatrade Maritime Awards earlier in the year, showing that despite changes taking place in the yard’s senior management, operations are continuing unaffected. The panel of independent judges debated the winners in a private closed-door session to determine the overall winners. The gala event took place in Dubai at the Palazzo-Versace Hotel with leaders from the regional maritime industry attending. This recent accolade is ASRY’s fourth victory in the Shipyard of the Year award category, which it also won in 2015, 2013 and 2011.
