ASRY (Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard) is the Arabian Gulf’s leading maritime repair and fabrication facility. Founded in 1977 in Bahrain, the multi-service yard operates in four sectors – Ship Repair & Conversion, Rig Repair & Conversion, Naval Repair & Conversion, and Fabrication & Engineering.
ASRY’s variety of facilities, from graving dock to floating dock, to slipways, to 4km of alongside berth space, means maximum flexibility in accommodating ship schedules.
Every major repair sub-contractor, classification society, and specialist workshop has an on-site presence at ASRY so that any repair requirements can be met without delay.
Bahrain’s trade policies mean that importing and exporting parts and labour is quicker and more efficient than regional yards, meaning faster turnaround for all repair projects.
MANAMA: ASRY, the leading ship and rig repair yard in the Arabian Gulf, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see MAN Diesel & Turbo, the world’s leading supplier of large diesel engines and turbomachinery, take a permanent presence in the shipyard. The new MAN workshop area will allow their service engineers to provide authorised support to their products on vessels calling at ASRY and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The agreement, which is the latest development in ‘Project Jupiter’, an initiative to give ASRY the leading portfolio of on-site specialist contractors in the Middle East. The new service is officially operational from November 1, 2014.
“ASRY is proud to have attracted one of the most recognised names in the global marine industry to Bahrain,” said Nils Kristian Berge, ASRY Chief Executive, “and we will undoubtedly benefit from having authorised experts on hand to provide quick services and repairs to the many customers which choose MAN’s products. Combined with other recent additions to the yard under Project Jupiter, such as Seven Seas, ABB, Solas, and more, ASRY is securing its position as a regional hub for authorised marine expertise.”
Olaf Gunia, General Manager of MAN Diesel & Turbo Middle East, commented, “Being able to widen our authorised support network to include ASRY and the Kingdom of Bahrain is an excellent boost to MAN’s presence in the region. ASRY’s addition ensures that customers who choose our products can be confident that our experts are present at the majority of the world’s major shipyards.”
Magdy Mustafa, ASRY Technical Resources and Business Development General Manager, also a signee to the MOU, highlighted the fact that ‘Project Jupiter’ had already brought increased investment in Bahrain from several worldwide marine brands, with more in the pipeline. Other members present at the signing were Anthony Haile, ASRY Navy, Defence & Industrial Projects Department Manager, and Martin Roberts, ASRY Navy Defence & Industrial Projects Department Project Manager.
ASRY already accommodates 33 Specialist Contractors, including leading names such as Gates, Alfa Lavel, Blohm+Voss, Harris PYE, Goltens, and more. As Project Jupiter continues, 2014 and 2015 will see several more global names take a permanent and significant presence in the yard.
